UFC Female Fighter Who Beat Holly Holm Issue Statement After Failed Drug Test

Bueno Silva revealed on social media that she had tested positive for a USADA-prohibited drug. In the meanwhile, while the offence is being appealed and further looked into, "Sheetara" may be suspended.

Mayra Bueno Silva, a UFC women’s bantamweight contender, claimed on Instagram on Monday that she failed a drug test conducted the week before her fight with Holly Holm last month.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) and USADA, the UFC’s anti-doping partner, are considering sanctions against Bueno Silva.

Bueno Silva said in her article that the substance for which she tested positive is “consistent” with the ADHD prescription she is prescribed by her doctor.

UFC Female Fighter Issue Statement After Failed Drug Test

Prior to her UFC match against Holly Holm, Mayra Bueno Silva revealed that she had failed a drug test. Mayra Bueno Silva (11-2 MMA) recently defeated Holly Holm (15-7 MMA) in a bantamweight contest on Saturday, July 15th, by submission choke at 0:38 of round 2.

Prior to her match with Holm, Bueno Silva revealed on social media that she had tested positive for a USADA-prohibited drug. In the meanwhile, while the offence is being appealed and further looked into, “Sheetara” may be suspended.

Mayra Bueno Silva firmly asserted that she has never used performance-enhancing drugs in a lengthy post to supporters on Instagram following the USADA drug test failure. She further stated that the chemicals for which she tested positive were consistent with the ADHD medication she takes. Silva continues by saying that she is completely collaborating with the Nevada State Athletic Commission and the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) in this regard.

Back in July, Silva defeated Holm, the former 135-pound champion, by submission in the second round. At the time, it was her fourth straight victory, positioning the Brazilian superstar for a future shot at the UFC women’s bantamweight championship. Of course, that outcome is now in question due to the now failed drug test.

With three victories by submission in her last four fights, Silva has established a strong reputation in the division. If she can overcome this latest obstacle, she’ll probably keep up her energetic drive for a chance at UFC gold.
