UFC Champ Sean O’Malley Eyes a Leap to the Featherweight Division
In a recent interview, UFC Bantamweight Champion Sean O'Malley expressed his desire to make a move up to the featherweight division, but with a specific condition in mind.

At UFC 292, Sean O’Malley made a significant impact by defeating bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling, catching the attention of the UFC and its fans. Recognizing his potential, Dana White sees O’Malley as a rising superstar, akin to Conor McGregor. O’Malley’s eyes are set on becoming a two-division champion, mirroring McGregor’s path, and he’s eyeing a move to the featherweight division where Alexander Volkanovski is champion at. However, there’s a specific condition attached to this ambition. Let’s delve into the specifics of when he plans to make this switch.

UFC Champ Sean O’Malley Wants To Move Up To Featherweight Division

O’Malley confidently proclaimed that a new era, dubbed the “Suga Era,” has dawned as he clinched the championship in the company. The company is vigorously promoting him as a burgeoning superstar, aiming to elevate both him and the company to greater heights and capture a broader audience. Currently, O’Malley is setting his sights on the featherweight division, under the condition that Volkanoski is not present in that category.

As can be seen above in the recent chat O’Malley was pressed will he consider moving up to the division answering that he stated, “I would love to, when Alexander Volkanovski isn’t the champ’. That motherfu*ker is pound for pound the best in the world right now…I mean I’m confident I can knock anyone out. I feel like I could definitely knock Alexander Volkanovski out. It’d be fu*king very very difficult. I mean maybe in a year or two he’s still there I would do it but I think he’s moving up to 155.”

There is no doubt that the Australian Champion is undoubtedly among the finest pound-for-pound fighters in the league. He’s been a dominant force in his division for a considerable time. Facing him poses a significant challenge, and O’Malley believes that after the Australian Fighter is no longer in the scene, moving to featherweight won’t be a cakewalk either.
