The inconceivable was attempted by Alexander Volkanovski during UFC 294. With only 10 days’ notice, he sought to gain weight in an effort to atone for his most recent defeat against Islam Makhachev, one of the best lightweights the UFC has ever seen. In the end, he was defeated by knockout for the first time in his UFC tenure and just the second time in his whole professional career.

Alexander Volkanovski Injury Update After UFC 294

Volkanovski has already made it clear that he intends to carry on competing and that he intends to defend his featherweight championship at UFC 297 on January 20 in Toronto. According to speculations, Ilia Topuria, who is unbeaten, will face the featherweight champion again in an effort to unseat him. It is unknown if he will return so quickly after suffering his first knockout loss in the UFC.

He is one of those fighters who, no matter the situation, will always be prepared to fight anyone, anywhere, and at any time. Few boxers are eager to challenge Islam Makhachev for the heavyweight title since doing so with less than two weeks’ notice is simply unheard of. Volkanovski is all about getting the benefit when the reward surpasses the risk.

Fans will enjoy watching an Alexander Volkanovski vs. Ilia Topuria featherweight championship clash, especially Toronto fans who have been impatiently awaiting the UFC’s return. It’s time for the UFC featherweight champion to simply wait and see what happens next.
