UFC 291 will take place on July 29 in Salt Lake City with several more fights still getting built up. However, Dana White has already confirmed the main card bouts, and fans have all the reasons to remain thrilled.
Alex Pereira lost his middleweight title to Israel Adesanya via KO at UFC 287. He could have remained at 185 lbs and challenged Izzy for a trilogy in the UFC. However, ‘Poatan’ decided to move up to 205 lbs as he will meet former champion Jan Blachowicz. Upon gaining the potential win, Pereira can earn a title shot in the light heavyweight category.
Blachowicz last competed at UFC 282 against Magomed Ankalaev for the vacant light heavyweight strap which ended in a draw. Jamahal Hill then captured the title at UFC 283. Now, the winner between Jan Blachowicz and Alex Pereira at UFC 291 is expected to get the next title shot against Hill.
Israel Adesanya failed to capture the 205 lbs belt when he fought the then-champion Jan Blachowicz at UFC 259. It remains to be seen whether Alex Pereira can take out the Polish fighter on his road to a light heavyweight title shot. The tickets for UFC 291 will be out for sale on June 2.
