When Julianna Peña was forced out of her scheduled fight with Amanda Nunes due to a rib injury, Irene Aldana stepped up to take her place. Despite Nunes’ confidence in winning the fight, she expressed that Aldana would provide a more formidable challenge than Pena. In fact, Nunes went as far as to commend Aldana’s fighting skills and consider her a superior fighter to Pena.
During the pre-fight conference, Nunes spoke of the excitement of fighting someone who can knock people out and expressed her readiness to face Aldana’s challenge. When asked about the new challenger, she stated, “She’s (Aldana) a better fighter than Julianna, for sure. She’s going to bring the challenge, and I’m ready for this battle. I’m more ready than ever. She’s going to bring the challenge, and I’m going to be ready to answer it. You guys have a great main event.”
What makes Aldana more dangerous as per Nunes?
Nunes’ controversial comments about Aldana being a more dangerous fighter than Pena are sure to stir up some emotions, especially given Nunes’ one win and one loss record against Pena. When asked about does she mean Aldana is more dangerous than Pena against whom she lost one fight.
She stated, “Definitely, this girl can knock people out,” Nunes said. “You guys saw (and) me too. How exciting that can be? We’re going to punch each other and try to kick each other’s ass. I hope you guys have a good time.”
