Brazilian Charles Oliviera was found to be a half-pound more than the lightweight category limit despite repeated attempts to hit the 155-pound mark. As a result, Oliviera will not be eligible to reclaim the title with a victory on Saturday.

The development would only allow Justin Gaethje to be the Lightweight Champion if he manages to get over Charles Oliveira. Thus, American Gaethje will have his second shot at the lightweight title after losing against Khabib Nurmagomedov in the first attempt back in October 2020.
Oliveira would be asked to forfeit some amount off his fight purse after failing to reach the benchmark weight. He would be vacating the title right after entering the octagon and would not win the title even after winning the match, Oliveira can only come out of the match as a number 1 contender for the Lightweight Title unlike Justin Gaethje who can still be the champion.
This is the fourth time that ‘Do Bronx’ will miss weight in his UFC career. Unfortunately, he hasn’t learned from his past mistakes that has now cost him his title.
Oliveira had won the lightweight title by defeating Michael Chandler in UFC 262 in May last year. He then retained his belt in December with most submission wins and victory over Dustin Poirier in main event at UFC 269.
