Derrick Lewis has replaced Curtis Blaydes in the matchup against Jailton Almeida while he is out. The fight will be the main event of UFC Fight Night 221 on November 4 in Sao Paulo’s Ibirapuera Gymnasium.
Recently, MMA Junkie was made aware of the shift by two sources, who asked to remain anonymous because the organisation has not yet made an official statement. Monday’s news was first reported by Ag.Fight.
Lewis (27-11 MMA, 18-9 UFC) aims to continue the momentum he established at UFC 291 in July, where he defeated Marcos Rogerio de Lima with ease and gained notoriety for his pantless celebration. Lewis’ three-fight losing streak was ended by the win, which also won him a new UFC contract.
Almeida (19-2 MMA, 5-0 UFC) enters the contest on a 14-fight winning streak, which includes five straight UFC finishes. He most recently contested in May at UFC on ABC 4, where he won by first-round submission against Jairzinho Rozenstruik in his first promotional headlining.
