Adesanya, the current UFC middleweight champion, once referred to Robert Whittaker as a mozzie (Maori Australian), casting doubt on his Australian citizenship while being a New Zealander by birth.

Adesanya acknowledged that Du Plessis’ assertion that becoming the first authentic African champion by winning UFC gold was disingenuous because he had treated Whittaker similarly. Du Plessis ought to do the same, according to Adesanya, who is now taking responsibility.

Israel Adesanya Admits He Was Wrong

Although there is now a great deal of respect between “The Last Stylebender” and Whittaker after their two fights in the cage, in the weeks leading up to their first encounter at UFC 243, Adesanya argued that Whittaker wasn’t a “real” New Zealander because he had migrated to Australia as a youngster.

After UFC 290, Israel Adesanya entered the ring to assess Dricus du Plessis after his victory. The two had to be dragged away from their trash-talking inside the octagon. Du Plessis made it obvious that he intended to face Adesanya next, even after the whole incident. However, “The Last Stylebender” claimed on the same podcast as The Halfcast Podcast that the South African is not interested in fighting.

The rivalry between Adesanya and Du Plessis was also stoked by some contentious remarks about heritage, and the UFC middleweight champion later apologised for his remarks about Whittaker on an episode of The Halfcast Podcast with fellow competitors Tyson Pedro and Kai Kara-France.

Also from an Instagram post shared by themaclifeofficial the post read, “Israel Adesanya on previously challenging Robert Whittaker’s heritage” Adesanya:” I can admit when I was wrong. I fucked up back then, but you learn. So I would never say that to Rob again because who am I to try and take away his heritage? That’s fucking stupid. I wasn’t even born here, but I claim to be from here because this is where my fighting heritage is from. But for me to have to say, Rob, that was very stupid and that was wrong. So I shouldn’t have done that- but you learn”.

Even without being in a situation where countless people are listening to every word you say, it can be difficult for anyone to admit a mistake, but Adesanya is eager to accept responsibility for his error and move forward.
