According to Brett Okamoto of ESPN, the promotion has chosen the two top-five heavyweights as the main event of a UFC Fight Night slated for April 22 at a soon-to-be-announced location and venue. Afterward, Blaydes confirmed the information on social media.

Moscow native Pavlovich (17-1) has been on a tear since his UFC debut defeat in November 2018. After registering a defeat against former title contender Alistair Overeem, Pavlovich went on a five-fight winning streak, including victories over Derrick Lewis and Tai Tuivasa in the first round.
Blaydes (17-3) has won three straight matches and amassed a 12-3 record overall in the UFC. His only defeats inside the octagon were at the hands of Lewis and twice-declared heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. Aside from that, he has been dominant in the UFC, and in five of his last six fights, he has competed in the main event.
