Holly Holm vs Ronda Rousey: What happened in the fight?
Holm came into the contest undefeated in her MMA career and with a lot of hype. However, she was facing arguably the biggest star in women’s MMA at the time. Ronda Rousey made a reputation of knocking out her opponents with ease. Therefore, the hype for the event was unreal.
The fight started fairly evenly. Rousey tried to stamp her authority right from the start. However, Holm was up to the task. Despite Rousey getting two takedowns, Holm managed to escape. She even got a takedown of her own. After that, Holm peppered Rousey with swift counters.
The biggest difference between the two was Holm’s straight left. The Southpaw landed several devastating straight lefts that Rousey walked into. Ultimately, this set the tone for the round and Rousey ended up with a bloody nose.
Heading into the second round, Rousey knew she had to change things quickly. However, she struggled to keep her distance and Holly Holm managed to land. Rousey tried to make it ugly and turn it into a slugfest. But her efforts were in vain. Eventually, Holm landed a perfect left hook that dropped Rousey. And as soon as Rousey got up, Holm landed the most perfect head-kick and knocked Rousey out cold.
Wild celebrations followed, and to this day, Holly Holm’s knockout of Ronda Rousey remains one of the best knockouts in MMA history.
