Alexander Volkanovski fires stern reminder to Islam Makhachev

Speaking to the media ahead of Saturday’s main event, Volkanovski addressed a whole host of topics. When asked about taking the fight on short notice, the Australian couldn’t resist taking a swipe at his opponent.

Volkanovski said, “Let me put it this way. 100% if the roles were reversed, this fight is not happening. I don’t care what anyone says. He’s not fighting on 12 days’ notice. So he needs to remember that.”

This comment is a response to Makhachev’s message to Volkanovski after he took the fight. The Russian said he respects Volkanovski for taking the fight on short notice. However, he warned the Australian that it should not be an excuse when he loses.

Clearly, Volkanovski did not take kindly to that message from Makhachev. Thus, with comments like this, it appears as though the main event is already heating up. And if the last fight is anything to go by, Saturday night will only be more carnage.
