Leon Edwards loss: What happened in the fight against Belal Muhammad?
Edwards took on Belal Muhammad on March 13, in 2021. The two competed in the main event of a UFC Fight Night card at the UFC Apex. This was Edwards’ first fight in the UFC for almost two years. And after a long hiatus, many showed their excitement at seeing him back in the cage.
However, things did not go according to plan. Despite an impressive first round, where Edwards dominated and landed a perfect head kick, the fight did not go Edwards’ way. 20 seconds into the second round, the current champion accidentally poked Belal Muhammad’s eye.
Since it was the second round and the fight did not go past the halfway mark, they could not go to the judges’ scorecards. However, it was also an accidental eye poke. So the referee could not disqualify him either. Therefore, the judges ruled the fight as a no-contest.
So ultimately, despite dominating Belal Muhammad, Edwards did not win. However, he did not lose either. And thus, while he may not have a winning streak, he is still unbeaten in his last 11 bouts in the UFC.
