All losses of Justin Gaethje Have faced in UFC

Gaethje’s first loss in his MMA career came on December 2, 2017, at UFC 218, when he faced Eddie Alvarez. The two had coached The Ultimate Fighter 26 together, and were expected to face each other at the conclusion of the season. Despite a competitive fight, Gaethje ultimately lost by KO in the third round.

Gaethje’s next loss came on April 14, 2018, at UFC on Fox 29, when he faced Dustin Poirier. The fight was back-and-forth, but Poirier ultimately won by TKO in the fourth round.

In October 2020, Gaethje faced Khabib Nurmagomedov in a unification bout for the UFC Lightweight Championship at UFC 254. Despite putting up a good fight, Gaethje lost via technical submission due to a triangle choke in the second round. This was the first submission loss of his MMA career.

Most recently, on May 7, 2022, Gaethje faced Charles Oliveira for the vacant UFC Lightweight Championship at UFC 274. Oliveira had missed weight and had been stripped of the title, leaving only Gaethje eligible to win the belt. Despite knocking down Oliveira twice, Gaethje ultimately lost the fight by rear-naked choke submission in the first round.

Despite these losses, Gaethje remains a top contender in the UFC’s Lightweight division. He is currently ranked #4 in the division as of July 20, 2023. Gaethje is scheduled to face Dustin Poirier in a rematch of their 2018 bout for the celebratory ” (‘BMF’) belt on July 29, 2023, at UFC 291.
