The UFC resumed its global tour, stopping on Saturday night in Sao Paulo, Brazil, for Fight Night 231. The main attraction on the card was homegrown boxer Jailton Almeida, who faced off against Derrick Lewis of the United States. Almeida was victorious by unanimous decision on an event including several combatants from around Brazil. UFC 295 will air live on TNT Sports and Discovery+ the following week.

At this Saturday’s UFC Fight Night in Brazil, Jailton Almeida defeated Derrick Lewis via unanimous decision.

A lot of Brazilians fought in their native land on the program, and Lewis fared badly in Sao Paulo.

Although the 38-year-old American defeated Marcos Rogerio de Lima via TKO in his last battle, he would ultimately lose for the fourth time in five bouts, raising doubts about his long-term prospects in the heavyweight class.

Lewis was unable to gather any momentum over the majority of Almeida’s dominant performance, which included superb grappling. The 32-year-old’s domination was so evident that the three judges awarded him a unanimous decision of 50-44, 50-44, and 50-45.

Almeida has a 22-2 record overall and is unbeaten in the UFC after six fights. He is already looking forward to facing his next opponent.

The UFC’s heavyweight title picture seems a little disorganized, which may be typical for the category historically. However, champion Jon Jones will miss at least eight months due to an injury. Jones was scheduled to headline UFC 295 on Saturday against former champion Stipe Miocic. Miocic will wait for a bout with Jones after he wasn’t given the opportunity to defend his interim belt.

Instead, the winner of UFC 295 between Sergei Pavlovich and Tom Aspinall will get an interim heavyweight title; after that, the big guy is reportedly going to wait for the Jones-Miocic victor.

Due to the chaos at the top, Almeida and the other competitors must continue fighting while the timer for the fighters vying for the titles runs out. Almeida then confronted Ciryl Gane, the former interim champion (12-2 MMAA, 9-2 UFC).
