After Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov’s death, Khabib fought only against Justin Gaethje and retired after scoring his 29th career win. Now that Islam Makhachev has claimed Khabib’s position as the champion, he misses his coach Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.

Islam Makhachev has always acknowledged Khabib Nurmagomedov and Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov as two of his biggest motivators in MMA. Turning the clock back to 2018, Makhachev didn’t hesitate to jump inside the cage and brawl with Conor McGregor after the infamous UFC 229 main event.
Times have changed and Islam Makhachev is now the main-event star at UFC 284. It will be his first title defense where the Dagestani fighter will look to grab the number 1 P4P status in the UFC against featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski.
Volkanovski hasn’t lost a professional fight since his maiden career defeat in 2013 and is still undefeated in the UFC. Makhachev shares a similar resume as he has only lost once as a professional fighter. It remains to be seen who hands whom their second loss in the sport.
