Fighters having unique nicknames is the trend in combat sports. Wanderlei Silva was ‘The Axe Murderer,’ Conor McGregor is ‘The Notorious’, and Chael Sonnen was ‘The Bad Guy’. However, we know that the UFC is yet to see a triple champion. So why does Henry Cejudo refer to himself as ‘Triple C’?

Henry Cejudo Nickname: What does ‘Triple C’ stand for?

‘Triple C’ stands for triple champion. However, not all three are the UFC championships. The first is the Olympic Gold medal that Cejudo won in 2008 in freestyle wrestling. The former UFC champion has said that the Olympic triumph meant the most to him.

However, he then transitioned to MMA and won the flyweight title. While the flyweight title win was an incredible achievement in itself, Cejudo wanted more and challenged for the bantamweight title too. Unsurprisingly, Cejudo won and therefore, he now goes by ‘Triple C’ for the three titles he won.

Cejudo’s flyweight title came against one of the greatest fighters in the game, Demetrious Johnson. ‘Triple C’ lost the first fight. However, in the rematch, the former Olympic Champion showed his class and outclassed Johnson to become the flyweight champion of the world.

‘Triple C’ won his final crown against Marlon Moraes. The American challenged for the bantamweight title and beat Moraes by TKO to become only the fourth fighter in history to hold two belts at the same time. However, he is the only Olympic Champion to become a UFC double champion. Therefore, in that sense, ‘Triple C’ did something no one else has ever done.

What do you make of Henry Cejudo’s nickname? Is it one of the best in the sport?
