In January 2024, Cain Velasquez, a former UFC heavyweight champion, will go on trial for a number of offences, including premeditated attempted murder.
On condition that the trial date will be fully fixed at the following session, Judge Daniel Nishigaya Wednesday gave Velasquez’s legal team another delay. The trial date has been postponed multiple times since it was originally scheduled for January. On December 6, the precise trial date will be decided; a January court date is anticipated.

After reportedly leading police on a high-speed chase and firing several revolver shots into a car, Velasquez was taken into custody back in February 2022. Harry Goularte and Goularte’s stepfather Paul Bender were inside the car Velasquez was firing into. The intended victim was Goularte, who is accused of abusing Velasquez’s 4-year-old son on a number of different counts.
Goularte was unscathed in the encounter, but Bender was shot and had non-life-threatening wounds. Later, the former UFC heavyweight champion was detained on 10 different charges, including one of premeditated murder. After spending eight months in jail, he was released on $1 million bond in November 2022.
Velasquez must receive therapy for his traumatic brain injury and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and wear a GPS ankle monitor at all times, according to the bail restrictions imposed by Judge Arthur Bocanegra. Velasquez also received permission to take part in professional wrestling matches and make other appearances.
If Cain Velasquez is found guilty of all charges, he might spend the rest of his life in prison.
