Following his UFC 291 loss against Justin Gaethje for the BMF strap, ‘Diamond’ went far from earning a lightweight title shot.
Previously, he has had two unsuccessful attempts at the gold against Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira.
Now that the 155 lbs strap seems to be a bit too far, Dustin Poirier appears to be moving up. He took to social media to speak out his mind.
‘Diamond’ wrote, “Ok, I’ll move up.”
Poirier has previously competed in the 145 lbs category (featherweight) before coming up to 155 lbs. The American Top Team prodigy has held the Interim lightweight title but could never become the UFC lightweight world champion.
That said, Dustin Poirier is still one of the most high-rated lightweights at the time. His incredible striking and fight IQ can cause trouble to almost all his opponents.
Poirier still hasn’t clarified which weight category he would select next. Meanwhile, 170 lbs (welterweight category) seem to be the most viable option.

Dustin Poirier Is Still The Only Man To KO Conor McGregor in MMA
Upon moving to 170 lbs, the fourth clash between Poirier and his arch-rial Conor McGregor can make sense. They competed at 145 lbs which ‘Notorious’ won.
The two fights at 155 lbs saw Dustin Poirier come out victorious. After knocking out McGregor at UFC 257, ‘Diamond’ won the trilogy at UFC 264 via doctor stoppage.
It would be interesting to see how the two men perform against each other at 170 lbs since McGregor has already competed as a welterweight.
Other than that, Colby Covington, Gilbert Burns, Kamaru Usman, Belal Muhammad, and several more A-listed names are sheltered at 170 lbs. If Dustin Poirier steps into that division, it can be a treat for fight fans all over the world.
