Unveiling the main event bouts for UFC 297 in January, UFC 298 in February, and UFC 299 in March, UFC CEO Dana White made a major announcement yesterday. With that plan, UFC 300 is expected to take place in April, maybe even with Conor McGregor in the main event.

Even if McGregor does make a comeback for UFC 300, Brock Lesnar and Ronda Rousey, two previous luminaries in the sport, will not.

“I get why everybody asks,” said White. “I love that everybody loves them like that, and with so much passion. I do, too. But they’re definitely not coming back for UFC 300.”

The UFC had two of its most memorable stints when Lesnar and Rousey were at the top of their respective abilities in the Octagon. Lesnar competed in eight UFC fights, claiming the heavyweight championship in just his third fight. Lesnar is 46 years old, and while there is little chance of him making a comeback, he is still a fierce combatant in excellent form.

In the unlikely event that Jon Jones’ heavyweight championship match with Stipe Miocic is called off, Lesnar would undoubtedly be a top contender for Jones. Lesnar would have had an intriguing opportunity to compete in UFC 300 given that he had already competed at UFC 200 in 2016 and UFC 100 in 2009. Nonetheless, it appears like Lesnar will make his next UFC appearance to accept his induction into the Hall of Fame.

Lesnar didn’t compete in the UFC again until 2016, which was five months following Rousey’s previous fight. Both have shone in WWE since then. It’s quite the accomplishment that Lesnar’s most recent tenure in the WWE was even more spectacular than his first. When Rousey made her debut at WrestleMania 34 and then helped headline WrestleMania 35 the following year, her run was particularly noteworthy in the early going.

Despite her young age of 36, Rousey hasn’t participated in an Octagon competition since December 2016. Like Lesnar, she participated in eight UFC fights, winning her first six with remarkable ease. As the first female inductee into the UFC Hall of Fame, Rousey brought mixed martial arts (MMA) into the public eye and rose to prominence.

UFC 295 takes place on Saturday at Madison Square Garden and is headlined by two title fights. The UFC matchmakers are not too far off from UFC 300, even though White’s first goal right now is MSG. Lesnar and Rousey, however, will not be on that historic card.
