Cub Swanson: UFC 297 Is More Than A Possibility In Toronto

UFC in Toronto, however, is more than just a possibility, claims Cub Swanson.

Since December 8, 2018, there has been no indication of the UFC in Toronto. When UFC 231 was held in Canada, Max Holloway, the current featherweight champion, served as its main attraction. He challenged Brian Ortega, a then-unbeaten Brazilian jiu-jitsu superstar.

However, since then there hasn’t been a UFC event in Toronto because of a mix of more contemporary interests and the initial obstacles brought on by the COVID-19 global epidemic. Even though the promotion was able to have events outside of Canada until 2019, it didn’t return to the nation until July 10, 2023.

UFC 297 Is More Than A Possibility In Toronto

UFC in Toronto, however, is more than just a possibility, claims Cub Swanson. The legendary featherweight stated on X/Twitter that he has been given a bout at UFC 297, which he claimed would take place in Toronto. He was offered a fight, but he was unable to accept it because of his upcoming surgery on Monday.

Swanson will then spend the rest of the year recovering from his procedure, which will prevent him from being ready for a UFC 297 card, which will be the first pay-per-view of 2024, in time. He was paired with an unknown fighter, whose name has not been made public.

In addition, neither the promotion nor UFC President Dana White has backed up his claims of a Toronto event. It is unclear who the company would assign to carry an event in Toronto, which may draw a sizable crowd despite the absence of a Canadian star to headline a UFC card there.

It’s a common misconception among fans that the legendary Canadian athlete Georges St-Pierre has headlined the most UFC events in Toronto. ‘GSP’ has only ever been the main event of one UFC card in Toronto. In addition, over the course of his career, he has only ever fought there once.

Surprisingly, Jon Jones, the current heavyweight champion and previous light heavyweight champion, has been the main event of three different UFC in Toronto events. If UFC 297 is truly scheduled to take place in Toronto, it will depend on whether or not Jones decides to retire following UFC 295.
