Colby Covington reveals he wants to fight Islam Makhachev after UFC 296

Islam Makhachev made it clear before his most recent fight that he is eager to defend his welterweight belt against Colby Covington.

The majority of UFC fans are currently anticipating the highly anticipated UFC 296 on December 17. But if Colby Covington prevails in the UFC welterweight championship match that evening, people could also recall what the well-known UFC star stated. Following UFC 296; Chaos stated in an interview on James Lynch’s YouTube channel that he would like to defend his title against Islam Makhachev.

In one of his most recent YouTube videos, renowned UFC legend Chael Sonnen also discussed this subject. “The American Gangster” expressed his thoughts on how Covington’s decision to support Makhachev was a rather legitimate call out.

Colby Covington To Disrupt UFC Order For UFC Championship

At UFC 296 in December, Colby Covington will defend his welterweight title against Leon Edwards. ‘Chaos’ declared his confidence in becoming the undisputed welterweight title shortly after the bout was announced, and he disclosed that he wanted Makhachev to step up to 170 pounds so they could square off in a champion vs. champion super battle.

At UFC 294, the lightweight champion of the UFC successfully defended his championship against Alexander Volkanovski, this time with an impressive first-round knockout. Islam Makhachev made it clear before his most recent fight that he is eager to defend his welterweight belt against Colby Covington.

Sonnen did, however, also say that the Covington vs. Makhachev fight’s eventuality might worry the other UFC welterweights. However, one fighter in particular might be the one who is most impacted by this match.

Chael Sonnen shared a video on his YouTube channel in which he described Covington’s challenge to Makhachev as his retaliation against Belal Muhammad for attempting to derail the American’s title matchup with Edwards.

It is obvious that Muhammad’s opportunity to defend his title directly depends on the outcome of the Covington vs. Makhachev fight. However, “Chaos” must first complete a “Rocky” task at UFC 296.
