There won’t be as many Brazilians there at the UFC’s first-ever visit to Sao Paulo in almost four years with UFC 231.
After four athletes failed to make their marks during the official weigh-ins for UFC Fight Night 231 on Friday, two of the bouts were canceled. In the end, three fighters failed to make weight, which caused the UFC to announce two cancellations.

UFC 231 Sao Paulo Fight Card: Fights Cancelled After UFC Fighters Miss Weight
At lightweight, Vinc Pichel (14-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) was scheduled to open the main card against Ismael Bonfim (19-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC). Bonfim did not try to lose more weight after weighing in at 159.5 pounds. Pichel failed at 157 on his first try as well, but he made advantage of his extra hour to become official at 155.5. But after that, the fight was abandoned.
Before his brother, Gabriel Bonfim, a welterweight who faces Nicolas Dalby in the co-main event, Bonfim, a native of Brazil, was scheduled to compete in a few fights. Dalby and Bonfim both added weight.
Victor Hugo (24-4 MMA, 0-0 UFC) of Brazil was scheduled to face Daniel Marcos (15-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) in the preliminary bout, less than three weeks before his UFC debut. Hugo weighed 138.5 pounds, compared to Marcos’ 136 pounds. After the weigh-ins, the bantamweight contest was canceled because he made no effort to lose further weight.
