Aljamain Sterling (23-4 MMA) and Sean O’Malley (17-1 MMA) recently competed for the bantamweight title in the main event of UFC 292 on Saturday, August 19. At 0:51 in the second round, O’Malley won through TKO.

When “Funk Master” faced O’Malley in the main event of UFC 292 in Boston, he had already successfully defended his bantamweight title three times. However, the 34-year-old was caught by a well-timed counter right hand in the second round before being finished by ground strikes.

Prior to UFC 292, Sterling said he intended to go up to featherweight regardless of the outcome of his contest with O’Malley. However, now that the former champion has had some time to analyse the defeat, it appears he has changed his mind.

Although Sterling established himself as perhaps the GOAT of the bantamweight division during his title reign, it would be difficult to refuse him an immediate rematch given that “Sugar” has already been talking about potential contenders for his first title defence.
