However, Volkanovski’s diet is not just about indulging in his favorite foods. It is part of an intricate plan designed by Jordan Sullivan, also known as The Fight Dietitian, an Australian dietitian and weight-cutting expert who works with some of the best fighters in the world. Sullivan’s plan involves three key parts.

The first part is ensuring that fighters are eating well and maintaining a healthy weight even when they are not in fight camp. This means that fighters like Volkanovski do not need to starve themselves or drastically cut back on their food intake leading up to a fight. Instead, they can maintain a healthy weight throughout the year and avoid the yo-yo effect of gaining and losing weight repeatedly.

The second part of Sullivan’s plan is to prepare meal plans and diets that provide fighters with enough energy for their rigorous training camps. This is essential for fighters who need to maintain their strength and endurance during the intense training sessions that prepare them for fights.

The final part of Sullivan’s plan comes during fight week, when fighters must cut down to their weight limit. For Volkanovski, this means cutting down to 145 pounds, or 65.7kg, which is a significant drop from his normal weight.

However, because he has followed Sullivan’s plan throughout his training camp, he can achieve this weight cut without severely restricting his food intake or dehydrating himself.

For fans of MMA, Volkanovski’s diet and weight-cutting plan are a fascinating insight into the science behind the sport. It shows that fighters can achieve their goals without resorting to extreme measures, and that a healthy, balanced diet is crucial for success in the octagon.
