It will be an extremely demanding task to beat Islam Makhachev, who is also the favorite on the odds. However, Alexander Volkanovski doesn’t mind being the underdog and has already outlined his 2023 plans after facing Islam Makhachev.
In a chat with TMZ, the UFC featherweight champion was asked to predict his next move, after Yair Rodriguez claimed that Alexander Volkanovski will quit the 145 lbs division if he beats Islam Makhachev at UFC 284.
In response, the Aussie said, “I made a promise that I will keep both the divisions busy and I am a man of my word. I have always been a man of my word. That’s just who I am, and that’s what I plan on doing. You know, obviously, you never know what happens, right? You are breaking bones and all that type of stuff, but I mean, I want to be active. I want 2023 to be an active [year] and this is the year that will define my legacy.”
Alexander Volkanovski is currently the number one ranked P4P fighter in the UFC. He has never suffered a loss in the promotion and is currently on a 12-fight win streak. That said, Volkanovski has never met an A-listed wrestler like Islam Makhachev before.
