What a night it was we saw one of the most stunning upset of the year. Sean Strickland accomplished what was deemed by many as an impossible feat – unseating Israel Adesanya and clinching the UFC middleweight championship. Strickland’s approach seemed simple: overpower Adesanya and secure the middleweight title, and he executed it flawlessly throughout the entire bout. Now, the rival against whom Adesanya sought revenge, Alex Pereiea and reclaimed the title, has shared his perspective on Strickland’s victory over Adesanya.

Izzy was on top of the world not long ago after defeating his long-standing rival, Alex Periera, and reclaiming the middleweight championship. However, his time as the champion didn’t last long, as he suffered a disappointing unanimous decision loss. Throughout the fight, Strickland consistently posed difficult obstacles for Izzy, leaving him searching for solutions.

Strickland relentlessly unleashed devastating strikes on Izzy, leading to moments where a TKO victory seemed inevitable. However, Izzy’s unwavering determination pushed the fight into the fifth round. In the end, Strickland secured a unanimous decision victory, with all three judges scoring the fight 49-46.  This result solidified one of the most remarkable upsets in UFC championship history. 

Pereira took to Twitter to express that he had previously pointed out Izzy’s vulnerabilities, although few believed him. He extended congratulations to Strickland, acknowledging his deserving victory. Following his loss, Izzy, who has had a bitter rivalry with Pereira, didn’t shy away from expressing his thoughts. 

Showing his typical outspokenness, Izzy acknowledged that he has weaknesses, indirectly taking a shot at Pereira in the process. Despite their intense rivalry, Izzy’s defeat seemed to have humbled him to some extent, prompting him to reflect on his own vulnerabilities.
