In the octagon, “Malhadinho” has so far shown that he is unstoppable, outstriking his five prior opponents by a score of 114-2 on his way to victories. After defeating Jairzinho Rozenstruik in the first round of their May match, Almeida will face former championship challenger Derrick Lewis on Saturday at UFC Sao Paulo. Lewis will be filling in for an injured Curtis Blaydes.

On the Trocação Franca podcast of MMA Fighting, Almeida stated that “nothing has changed in preparation” for Lewis in contrast to his prior approach, and he is fully aware of “The Black Beast’s” ability to knock opponents out.

Blaydes, who now holds the No. 4 heavyweight spot in MMA Fighting’s global rankings, gave Almeida the opportunity to put himself to the test against the best in the heavyweight class.

However, Lewis draws a larger crowd to Almeida’s second-ever fighting main event.

Almeida’s record would rise to 6-0 with a victory on Saturday. However, given that Sergei Pavlovich and Tom Aspinall will be defending their interim titles at UFC 295 the following week, it may not be enough to give him a chance to win the title. In light of this, Almeida targets a different highly ranked opponent for 2024.

Almeida said. “I’ll ask for the No. 4, No. 3. I think Ciryl Gane and I would be a good fight, a man that once had the interim belt.”

In his two UFC title battles against Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou, Gane has only lost once since turning pro. However, the French fighter recently overcame Serghei Spivac with a perfect TKO victory. In addition, he has victories over Tai Tuivasa, Jairzinho Rozenstruik, Alexander Volkov, Junior dos Santos, and Derrick Lewis in the UFC.
