Alex de Minaur downs Zverev to make his Top 10 debut ahead of Australian Open 2024

Alex de Minaur is the first men's Australian player to enter the ATP Top 10 since Lleyton Hewitt.

Alex de Minaur has started 2024 with a bang. After downing World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in his last singles match, de Minaur has now beaten Alexander Zverev to make his ATP Top 10 debut. The 24-year-old Aussie won a three-set thriller to give Australia a chance to make the United Cup 2024 Final.

With the Australian Open 2024 starting in a week, Alex ‘Demon’ de Minaur has become the first Australian player since Lleyton Hewitt to enter the Top 10. Hewitt was Demon’s idol growing up. The Aussie legend was in the Top 10 in 2006, and now, 18 years later, a player who idolises him and plays like him has breached the ATP Top 10 for the first time.

Demon’s career-best 2023 season

Alex de Minuar has been riding high since 2023, which was his career-best season. The 24-year-old ended the season with a career-high rank of 11.

Demon claimed his first ATP 500 Title and reached his maiden ATP 1000 Final in 2023. He also beat players like Rafael Nadal, Andrey Rublev, Daniil Medvedev, and Taylor Fritz.

Now, with a week left before his home slam, the Australian Open 2024, the top-ranked Aussie has made his ATP Top 10 debut and will be going into the slam with high hopes.
