A ‘B team’ of sorts is again expected to travel to Zimbabwe for a three-match ODI series. Dhawan will again be in contention to lead the team, while the likes of Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant could also come into the picture. Whether Rahul Dravid or VVS Laxman helm that team remains to be seen.

The action then moves to Sri Lanka, where a full-strength Indian team will feature in the Asia Cup 2022. The tournament will see Rohit Sharma and Co. feature in five games should they make the final. The Men in Blue will face off against Pakistan on August 28 to kick off their campaign, with games against Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka to follow alongside a qualifier nation.

India are also expected to play two T20Is against Sri Lanka, but it remains to be seen whether the games take place before or after the T20 World Cup. Earlier it was suggested that the series would be played just before the Asia Cup, but with the Zimbabwe tour being announced, it seems like a difficult prospect. However, like during the series against Ireland, India could opt to send two separate teams on tour.

In what is likely to be India’s final bilateral assignment before the T20 World Cup, the Men in Blue will host Australia for three T20Is. The defending champions also hosts of the upcoming edition will be the final practice for Rohit and Co, with the deadline for the T20 WC squad likely to have passed by then.

With the amount of cricket, India will have to continue their policy of rest and rotate with Rahul Dravid having created a strong group of players with international experience to bank on. During the bilateral marathon, India are expected to play almost every other day, with less than a week’s gap between two tours.

Head coach Rahul Dravid had previously bemoaned the amount of workload the players had, and the calendar is just growing stressful for Rohit Sharma and Co. India have had tom adopt 8 captains in the last nine months, showcasing their incredible depth, but also their inability to field their best team at all times.
