Taipei Open Badminton LIVE – World No.4 Chou Tien-chen won his maiden title of the season in front of his home crowd at the Taipei Open by defeating Japan’s Kodai Naraoka in the final. Tai Tzu Ying BEAT Seana Kawakami – 21-17, 21-16 

India’s campaign at the Taipei Open came to an end as Third Seed Parupalli Kashyap, Sixth seeded Indian Mixed Doubles pair Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto and Women’s Doubles pair Tanisha Crasto and Shruti Mishra all faced defeats in the quarterfinals of the tournament on Friday, 22nd July.

Crasto / Mishra LOST TO Ng Tsz / Tsang – 16-21, 22-20, 18-21

Bhatnagar / Crasto LOST TO Hoo / Toh – 19-21, 12-21

 

Though Kashyap put up a fight, Joo Ven prevailed 21-12, 12-21, 21-17 in the match that lasted 55 minutes. Joo Ven started the first game with a dominating performance and didn’t give Kashyap a chance to settle. The game was well controlled by the Malaysian player.

Kashyap turned the tide in the second game and got even with his Malaysian rival. The third game started well for Joo Ven as he kept a good lead over Kashyap. However, Kashyap fought hard towards the end winning four points in a row to make the score 17-19. Joo Ven kept his composure and was able to close the game in his favour.

India’s Tanisha Crasto and Shruti Mishra gave a tough fight in the quarterfinal against Hong Kong’s Ng Tsz Yau and Tsang Hiu Yan but l;ost to the sixth seeded pair 16-21, 22-20, 18-21.

Mixed doubles pair Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto suffered defeat 19-21, 12-21 to Malaysia’s Hoo Pang Ron and Toh Ee Wei in the quarterfinals. Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto started the match swiftly, but the Maylasian pair took 11-7 to enter the interval with a four-point advantage. At the end of the opening game, the score read 19-21.

In the second the Maylasian pair played with swift and aggressive moves to end the game in their favour with a straight-set victory of 21-19, 21-12.

The tournament marks its return after a two-year hiatus this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This will be the 15th tournament on the BWF Tour this year.
