Andrey Rublev has made his way into the semifinal with a 6-1, 7-6 victory against Jan Lennard Struff in the quarterfinals at the Monte Carlo Masters on Friday, 14th April 2023. Daniil Medvedev vs Holger Rune
Daniil Medvedev is aiming to reach his sixth straight semifinal in the ATP Tour this year. Medvedev faces tennager Holger Rune in the quarterfinals of the Monte Carlo Masters 2023. Medvedev is on a eight-match win streak and is gunning for his fifth title of the season. Medvdev began his campaign with a straight set victory against Lorenzo Sonego. In the third round, he clinched a hard-fought 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 victory against Alexander Zverev.
Holger Rune is the sixth seed and he began his campaign with a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Dominic Thiem. In the third round he received a walkover against Matteo Berrettini. The teenager has the big task of ending Medvedev’s win streak.
Facing a player who defeated Alex De Minaur and Casper Ruud in the tournament, Rublev started the contest on a scratchy note. He lost his first service game. However the Russian soon made a comeback and he punished Struff by winning the next five games on the tor as he won the first set 6-1.
He then remained patient in the second set. He was pushed by the German as the second set went into the tie-breaker. However Rublev prevailed in the end as he clinched his s 16th tour-level win of the season after one hour and 39 minutes.
The 25-year-old now leads Struff 3-2 in their ATP Head-to-Head record. With the win, he has avenged his loss against the 32-year-old in their previous meeting at Roland Garros in 2021.
Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Taylor Fritz
Second seed Stefanos Tsitsipas and Taylor Fritz will face each other in a blockbuster quarterfinal contest. Tsitsipas is still in contention to lift his third successive title at the Monte Carlo Masters. Tsitsipas received a walkover in the second round when he was leading 4-1 against Benjamin Bonzi. In the third round, Nicolas Jarry sealed a comfortable 6-3, 6-4 victory.
Taylor Fritz began his campaign with a 7-6, 6-2 win against Stan Wawrinka in the second round. The eighth seed took on Jiri Lehecka in the third round and sealed a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 to set up clash against Fritz in the quarterfinal. Tsitsipas leads the head-to-head record 3-0 against the American.
Jannik Sinner vs Lorenzo Musetti
Jannik Sinner will face Lorenzo Musetti in an all-Italian clash in the quarterfinal at the Monte Carlo Masters. Both the players will be fighting for their maiden semifinal spot in the tournament at Monaco. Sinner was given a walkover by Diego Schawartzman in the second round. In the third round, he faced 10th seed Hubert Hurkacz. Against the Pole Sinner lost the first set but fought back and won the contest 3-6, 7-6, 6-1.
16th seed Lorenzo Musetti meanwhile ousted Novak Djokovic from the third round. The 21-year old will be making his maiden appearance in the quarterfinal at Monte Carlo. He started the campaign with dominating wins against Miomir Kecmanovic and Luca Nardi.
