Indians in action
Men’s Singles
Kidambi Srikanth headlines India’s action in the Men’s Singles. He is seeded fifth in the tournament. The 30-year old will begin his campaign by facing Sitthikom Thammasin in the first round.
Sai Praneeth is also placed in the same quarter. Srikanth is likely to face the Indian in the second round. Sai Praneeth will begin his campaign against Mark Caljouw.
Mithun Manjunath, who bowed out from the second round of the Swiss Open last week will face compatriot Kiran George in the first round. The winner of the contest is likely to face either Spain’s Luis Penalver or a qualifier in the second round. The only seeded player in this quarter is eighth seed Toma Junior Popov.
Sameer Verma is the other Indian in the Men’s Singles. He is placed in the final quarter. The World No.57 last played in the Thailand Masters 2023. Verma will face Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen in the first round at the tournament. If he advances to the second round, he is likely to face a tough challenge against second seed Kenta Tsuneyama.
Women’s Singles
PV Sindhu has endured poor run so far in the BWF Tour this year. Her best performance so far is reaching the second round at Swiss Open. She is looking for turnaround of fortunes. The World No.9 is the second seed in the tournament.
She is placed in the final quarter of the draws. She will begin her campaign by facing a qualifier in the first round. The only other seeded player in the quarter is seventh seed Hsu Wen-chi.
Ashmitha Chaliha has received a direct entry to the main draw following the withdrawal of Saina Nehwal. Chaliha will face France’s Leonice Huet in the first round. The only seeded player in the quarter is USA’s Beiwen Zhang.
Aakarshi Kashyap and Malvika Bansod find themselves in the first quarter. While Kahsypa begins her campaign against sixth seed Michelle Li, Bansod will face Denmark’s unseeded Julie Jaobsen. Carolina Marin is present in the same quarter.
Men’s Doubles
Fresh after winning the Swiss Open, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty enter the Madrid Masters as the second seed. They are in the final quarter. They are set to begin their campaign by facing Japan’s Ayato Endo and Yuta Takei. England’s Ben Lane and Sean Vendy are the only other seeded players in the quarter.
Dhruv Kapila and MR Arjunare in the second quarter. The unseeded pair will face Scotland’s Christopher Grimley and Matthew Grimley in the first round. They will face challenge from sixth seed Lu Ching-yao and Yang Po-han if they advance to the second round.
Krishnaprasad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala are in the top quarter. The Indian pair will be facing a qualifer in the first round. However in the second round, they are likely to set up clash against top seed Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Ardianto.
Women’s Doubles
Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand are the sixth seed. They will begin their campaign by facing Japan’s Rena Miyaura and Ayako Sakuramoto in the first round. They are placed in the first quarter and are likely to face first seeded pair Apriyani Rahayu and Siti Ramadhanti in the quarterfinal.
Ashwini Bhat and Shikha Gautam are the other Women’s Doubles pair. They will face France’s Margot Lambert and Anne Tran in the first round. Sikki Reddy and Arathi Sunil have also received a direct entry to the main draw. They will face USA’s Annie Xu and Kerry Xu in the first round.
