Rishabh Pant Accident Timeline

  • Rishabh Pant sets off for Roorkee to surprise his mother with a New Year’s eve visit
  • The 25-year-old falls asleep behind the wheel and crashes into a barricade on the Dehradun Highway
  • He then escapes a  falling car with the help of locals and is taken to Saksham Hospital in Roorkee.
  • Pant is later shifted to Max Hospital in Dehradun for specialist treatment.
  • The 25-year-old suffers two cuts on forehead, back and wrist injuries. Damage to the knee and ankle also done.
  • He undergoes plastic surgery for abrasions and wounds. BCCI holds off ligament treatment.
  • His brain and spinal cord MRI results returned normal. Scans for his ankle and knee are scheduled for Saturday.
  • Following observation, Pant will travel to Mumbai for further assessment.

Fortunately, the 25-year-old did not suffer injuries to his brain or spinal cord. The MRI for the same has returned ‘normal. as per ESPNCricinfo. He has also undergone plastic surgery intervention for facial injuries, lacerated wounds and abrasions. BCCI

Pant’s car met with an accident between Manglaur and Narsan in the Haridwar district. He was on his way to surprise his mother and spend New year’s Eve with them. However, those plans took a horrific turn after an early morning crash. 

According to the 25-year-old, he lost control of the vehicle because he dozed asleep behind the wheel, said Uttarakhand Director General of Police Ashok Kumar. At the time of the collision, Rishabh Pant was the only one in the vehicle, and he shattered the car window to get out.

SP Dehat Swapan Kishore later confirmed the news stating: “Cricketer Rishabh Pant’s car met with an accident between Manglaur and Narsan in Haridwar district. He has been shifted to Max Hospital Dehradun after giving primary treatment at Roorkee Civil Hospital. Accident took place on NH-58 of Manglaur PS area.”

Rishabh Pant Accident: India star stable, no fracture or burns

According to eyewitnesses, Rishabh’s car collided with the railing, after which the car caught fire. The fire was brought under control with great difficulty. A few locals and a bus driver helped Pant off the car minutes before it caught flames. 

According to Dr Sushil Nagar who led the emergency treatment, Pant has lacerative wounds on his forehead, one right above the left eye; there is a ligament tear in his knee; and abrasions on his back. However, the first X-rays suggest there is no fracture and there are no burns on Pant’s body despite his car catching fire.

 

Passerbys were quick to help the Indian cricketer. In a video, Pant’s face was all bloodied after the accident as his car burnt to ashes in front of him. The BCCI confirmed that the 25-year-old suffered two cuts to his forehead, and injuries to his wrist, knee and ankle. There were also wounds and abrasions on his back. 

Rishabh Pant shifted to Max Hospital, BCCI in constant touch with doctors, family

Pant underwent plastic surgery for his facial and abrasion wounds in Dehradun. The BCCI Medical Staff were in constant touch with doctors at Max Hospital in Dehradun. All treatment on his knee ligaments were held off with BCCI taking over. The Indian wicketkeeper will now travel to Mumbai to decide further course of action.

Pant had an MRI on his brain and spine which returned ‘normal’. However, the scan for his knee and ankle were postponed due to severe pain and swelling. The 25-year-old was already carrying a niggle and feared the accident could have aggravated the same. 

“It has been conveyed to Pant’s family members and doctors in Dehradun that his ligament treatment will be overseen by BCCI. Pant will be discharged from Dehradun hospital after staying observation. After that, he will be assessed by BCCI’s doctors in Mumbai and further treatment will be decided. It could happen abroad as well,” a BCCI source told TOI on Friday evening.

Meanwhile, The BCCI has stayed in constant touch with Pant’s family. It is believed BCCI Secretary Jay Shah personally reached out to his the wicketkeeper’s family to give them assurance. Several members of the Indian team and Indian PM Narendra Modi also did the same. India captain Rohit Sharma meanwhile spoke to Rishabh’s doctors from the Maldives.

 

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has instructed officials to ensure all possible arrangements for the treatment of the injured cricketer Rishabh Pant. He has also asked to provide an air ambulance if required, stated CMO.
