Rishabh Pant Accident: Team India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant suffered a horrific crash on his way to Dehradun in the wee hours of Friday. Pant was driving alone in his Mercedes and was ‘lucky to survive’ as his vehicle caught fire. The 25-year-old broke the window of his car to escape, with locals and a bus driver helping him off to a nearby hospital. Pant is currently stable, BCCI confirmed. Rishabh Pant suffered a severe car accident on his way to Roorkee in the early hours of Friday morning. The Indian wicketkeeper fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into the divider. His car then caught fire.
He was rescued by a bus driver, Sushil Kumar, who witnessed the accident first time. Coming on from the other end, the bus driver broke the glass to rescue Pant. The Indian star told the bus driver his identity, saying ‘I am Rishabh Pant, my car caught fire’.
Speaking to India Today, the bus driver said, “The Indian star wicket-keeper was badly injured after the car accident and was badly injured and limping. He told his identity that he is Rishabh Pant. His car caught fire, so I broke the glass and rescued him”

Sushil Kumar said that he had no idea of Rishabh Pant as he did not watch cricket. He further said that the car broke the barricade and went skidding for about 200 meters.
“I saw the car came & hit on divider & Rishabh was badly injured & he had come out of car & then I stopped bus & immediately went to him, I made him lie down in a safe place & wrapped him with my sheet & then call an ambulance.”
“There were no clothes on Rishabh’s body, so I wrapped my sheet on him. I didn’t know that he is a Cricketer & he is Rishabh Pant because I don’t watch cricket. That time I just felt that I should help them,” he added.
The conductor of the bus, Paramjeet, told Cricbuzz, “It happened at around 5.14-15 AM, right in front of our eyes. We pulled him out and we thought he was dead. We actually kept him on the divider. At that stage, the vehicle exploded and we all moved away from the burning car. Soon, he became conscious and told us no one else is in the car. I asked him who he was and he told us he is an India cricketer.”
Pharmacist reveals Pant was in a ‘lot of pain’
Aaj Tak also spoke to the Pharmacist from 108 Ambulance who took Pant from the accident spot to the hospital. Monu Kumar, who was on duty revealed that the bus driver had taken the 25-year-old out of the vehicle. Pant was soon helped onto the stretcher and into the ambulance
Once in the ambulance, Kumar confirmed the patient’s details and it was revealed to be Rishabh Pant. He was hurt in the eye, bleeding from the nose, his back was peeled, and there was also an injury to his leg, Kumar revealed.
Rishabh told the pharmacist, “Brother, I am in a lot of pain, first give me some pain injection”.
Monu took permission from 108 and gave him a pain injection. He was then taken to Saksham Hospital for primary treatment.
Social media has erupted with thank you messages to the good samaritans. However, the Haryana state employees said that they helped out due to humanitarian courtesy.
“We do not want any awards. We are employees of the Haryana government and we did what we had to, or any human would do. We will be happy if Rishabh Pant gets well soon and his Ballah does the talking again,” said Sushil.

Rishabh Pant Accident Timeline
- Rishabh Pant sets off for Roorkee to surprise his mother with a New Year’s eve visit
- The 25-year-old falls asleep behind the wheel and crashes into a barricade on the Dehradun Highway
- He then escapes a falling car with the help of locals and is taken to Saksham Hospital in Roorkee.
- Pant is later shifted to Max Hospital in Dehradun for specialist treatment.
- The 25-year-old suffers two cuts on forehead, back and wrist injuries. Damage to the knee and ankle also done.
- He undergoes plastic surgery for abrasions and wounds. BCCI holds off ligament treatment.
- His brain and spinal cord MRI results returned normal. Scans for his ankle and knee are scheduled for Sunday.
- Following observation, Pant will travel to Mumbai for further assessment.
“Rishabh has two cuts on his forehead, a ligament tear in his right knee and has also hurt his right wrist, ankle, toe and has suffered abrasion injuries on his back. Rishabh’s condition remains stable, and he has now been shifted to Max Hospital, Dehradun, where he will undergo MRI scans to ascertain the extent of his injuries and formulate his further course of treatment,” a BCCI Statement confirmed later.

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has instructed officials to ensure all possible arrangements for the treatment of the injured cricketer Rishabh Pant. He has also asked to provide an air ambulance if required, stated CMO.
