While City dominated possession in the first half, it was the other way around with the host Leipzig getting out of the gates quickly in second half. The host dominated the possession and attacked the City goal in search of an equalizer. Leipzig came close to scoring the equalizer twice. Both chances fell to substitute Benjamin Henrichs. In the 53rd minute Henrichs rose inside the penalty area but his header went just over the crossbar.

The best chance for Leipzig came in the 55th minute. Henrichs who is in acres of space to pace his shot flashed his low effort wide of the far post. The equalizer finally arrived for the German side in the 72nd minute.
Halstenberg’s pinpoint cross was headed into Manchester City’s goal by Gvardiol to bring his team back into the match. City came close to scoring in the 74th minute, but Gundogan’s shot was excellently saved by Blaswich to keep his team level in the match. Both teams were unable to find the second goal and now head to Manchester for the second leg with scores tied.
