The Red Devils suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of neighbours Manchester City at home on Saturday, but it did little to deter Solskjaer’s plans who gave the players a week off with most of the squad on international duty. The move was said to be unexpected considering the crisis at Old Trafford.

Manchester United players and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer haven’t been seen at Carrington, the club’s training facility, after their2-0 loss to Manchester City on Saturday. On Monday, Raphael Varane arrived at headquarters to continue treatment from his hamstring injury, while Marcus Rashford is also set to report, having pulled out of England’s squad. The Norwegian was pictured at Manchester airport with his wife Silje and their sons Noah and Elijah before travelling by private jet to his hometown of Kristiansund.

The Manchester United boss has faced criticism for losing six of the last 12 games and over the manner of the humiliating home defeats by Manchester City and Liverpool. Doubts have persisted in his ability to lead the team out of this crisis and closer towards silverware as he inches closer to his third anniversary at the club. However, as per Daily Mail, club sources indicated again on Monday night that the 48-year-old’s job is not under immediate threat and he is expected to remain in charge for the visit to Watford a week on Saturday.

Marcus Rashford formally withdrew from international duty because he has yet to complete 90 minutes since returning from shoulder surgery last month and then picked up a flu bug last week. Manchester United are also waiting for a medical update on Paul Pogba after he limped out of a training session with France last night due to a thigh injury.
