Kounde joined Barcelona last summer after snubbing Chelsea. He was linked with a move since January 2022, but Sevilla decided not to sell him them. In July, Barcelona announced the signing of Kounde and a 5-year contract was signed.
The 24-year soon found himself one of the key figures at the club. He played an important role in the backline of Barcelona, who won the La Liga title this season. Kounde appeared in 27 La Liga games, most of them came as a right back, and not the position he played at Sevilla. In 38 games in which he appeared in all competitions, he started 17 as a center-back and 21 as a right-back.
The kind of versatility Kounde brings to a team’s backline is a big factor in making him a key player for any team. No manager wants to lose such a player and Xavi is the same. The Barcelona manager had a talk with the former Sevilla man and said, “I spoke with Koundé and I was clear with him. I know there are a lot of stories — but the player left the meeting happy and same for me. There are no problems. The conversation has been clear, no problem and no issues.”
The reason for leaving the club is not clear yet, however, some reports suggest some ‘unfilled promises’ by Xavi and the board have led to this. Some others have claimed that he is not happy with his Righ-back role and wants to play as a center-back.

Arsenal are keeping a close eye on the situation, who are hoping to bolster their defense by signing some new names. Kounde might be a good fit for the club, but given his contract has 4 years left, it won’t be an easy deal for the Gunners.
