Jon Jones return at UFC 285

Francis Ngannou, the heavyweight champion, decided not to re-sign with the UFC so that the vacant championship will be contested in the main event of UFC 285 on March 4 in Las Vegas by former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones (26-1 MMA, 20-1 UFC) and Ciryl Gane (11-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC). Jones traveled back to Arizona for the fourth time to train with Cejudo, who has worked with fighters like UFC strawweight champion Zhang Weili and flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo.

Jones, Demetrious Johnson, and Georges St-Pierre, according to Cejudo, are the fighters people look up to. Jones then questioned Cejudo about his position on Johnson, whom he had previously faced twice for the UFC flyweight championship. Triple C’s response: “I rank him under me. I put myself fifth. The only reason I place myself in the top five after you, Demetrious Johnson, Anderson Silva, and GSP is because I have two belts and have defeated three Hall of Famers to go with it. Two belts, in my opinion, carry a lot of weight.”

Jon Jones on training with Henry Cejudo

In a recent interview, Jones spoke about his choice to train with Cejudo: “began working out with Henry more than a year ago… Henry is just brilliant. It’s been wonderful since he is such a fantastic leader and strategist. Henry has a great deal of passion for MMA. Angles and other small elements are all that matter. Henry would be an excellent coach for me in this battle with Ciryl Gane. He may be one of my corners if our schedules coincide and we communicate well.”
