Earlier, Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo also confirmed the young attacker would make a return to Spain. He said: “The truth is that I can’t tell you the plan with Joao. It’s the news we had yesterday, that the new coach doesn’t have him for Chelsea. We don’t have anything planned yet, Joao is an Atlético player now.”
Felix made 16 appearances for Chelsea and scored four goals. He was given regular opportunities by Graham Potter but he didn’t replicate his best version in Blues outfit. Chelsea faced their worst season as they finished the bottom half of the table.
Recently, Atletico’s president said, “We have been informed that Poch does not count with João Félix for Chelsea. He will return here, we’ll see… we’ve nothing planned.”
Joao Felix was out of favour with Diego Simeone who used him in just seven league games in Spain before the loan deal in January.
Meanwhile, Chelsea appointed Pochettino as their new club manager who has taken charge from interim manager, Frank Lampard. He has made plans for the upcoming summer transfer window and Felix is not in his plan. Chelsea wants to bring someone else into his position.
RB Leipzig’s Chritopher Nkunku is on Chelsea’s radar. Pochettino wants to bring him to Stamford Bridge. The club is also looking at other options but Nkunku is currently the main priority. Nkunku was the joint-highest goal-scorer in Bundesliga and won the golden boot.
