IPL 2023: The IPL has always been a platform that has unearthed many Indian talents. This year too, through the IPL auction, many unheralded uncapped Indians have come under the spotlight. One such player is Kerala’s Abdul Basit, who is all set to represent Rajasthan Royals in the upcoming edition. The hard-hitting middle order batsman impressed in his debut season for Kerala in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy this year. His performance came under the captaincy of Sanju Samson and the impressed skipper played his part in getting the talented youngster picked up by the  Rajasthan Royals.

After getting selected to the Royaals, speaking to Sportstar, Basil said, “Sanju Samson has been one of my heroes and it feels great that I am becoming a part of his team.”

Who is Abdul Basit? 

The Ernakulam born Basit hails from a humble background. His father works as a bus driver with the Kerala State Road Trasnsport Corporation (KSRTC). The Ernakulam born lad made his List A and T20 Debut for Kerala only this year.

Having played in only 8 T20 matches so far, what stands out for Basith is his strike rate. He has scored 109 runs so far at an impressive strike rate of 149.31.

After his impressive season, Basith attended various selection trials for IPL franchises ahead of the auction. “I had done well at the trials with the Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians. I am delighted that I will be joining the Royals,” added Basith.

Basith is training hard to polish his finishing skills as he aims to become a specialist finisher in the shortest format. “A lot of training is required if you want to be a good finisher,” he added.

Rajasthan Royals finished the last IPL season as the runner-up. The franchise is aiming to lift their second IPL trophy in the upcoming edition.
