Stephan Fleming fires warning to GT says ‘CSK better prepared to play IPL final than past’

Shubman Gill is most likely having the time of his life at the plate. Playing for the Titans in the lucrative league’s 2023 season, he has amassed an astounding total of 851 runs in 16 innings at an outstanding average of 60.78. On several occasions, he has single-handedly carried his team to victory.

The 23-year-old is only 123 runs away from tying Virat Kohli’s record for most runs scored in a single IPL season (973), given the type of magnificent performance he has put on display with the bat. During the 2016 season, Virat accomplished the feat while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Given his current form, Gill is certain to break the mark even though he will need to play another brilliant innings in the final match against MS Dhoni’s CSK. The second-most runs scored by a single player in the IPL in a season, 863 by great Rajasthan Royals batter Jos Buttler in the 2022 edition, is still set to be broken by the Gill as he is only 12 runs away from doing so.

Notably, Gill is now tied for second place in this edition’s record of most sixes hit in the current season with 33 maximums. To pass Faf du Plessis, who finished the year with 36 sixes in 14 games, Gill has to smash four huge hits.
