IPL 2023: BCCI have been dealt a major blow with foreign player availability being a major doubt during the latter stages of the IPL 2023. The WTC Final is set to be played on June 7, meaning players could miss out during the playoffs. Further scheduling conflicts could occur, with ICC not allowing any other tournament seven days prior. “We will try to avoid any potential clash with World Test Championship final. We understand there could potentially be a problem over players’ availability,” said the BCCI official.

BCCI are in a fix with the ICC set to host the WTC Final on June 7. The date is dangerously close to the IPL Final, with the Indian cricket board aiming for a May end Final.
ICC rules dictates no competition should be held 7 days prior to an ICC event. In that case, the IPL Final has to be held on or before May 30.
“Yes, we know and we are discussing the potential start and end dates. We haven’t yet finalised the both dates. But expect the IPL to start in around March end and finish by May last week,” a BCCI official told InsideSport.IN.

Currently, Australia, South Africa, India and SriLanka are in the top 4 spots in the WTC table. Australia and South Africa both have a high number of players both retained in the upcoming auction.
Such a conflict could also change auction dynamics. Last year, Australia stars missed the start of the IPL due to their tour of Pakistan.
