During the two seasons in 2016 and 2017, Dhoni and Pietersen turned out for the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS). The cricketer-turned-expert though has revealed what was Dhoni’s reaction when CSK finally returned to the T20 league.
IPL 2022: Pietersen on what CSK meant to Dhoni – While speaking to Star Sports, Pietersen revealed that Dhoni gave his heart and soul to RPS, but he was extremely happy when CSK returned in 2018. CSK meant like family to Dhoni.
“That yellow outfit means so much to MS Dhoni. I remember playing with him in Pune Supergiants for a couple of seasons and he was so happy to be back to CSK when they came back into the competition. He was incredibly professional. He did the best job he could because that is the kind of guy he is,” Kevin Pietersen said.

“He always gives his 100 percent. In Pune, he was incredible in what he tried to deliver. But if you look at his energy, the way he punches at the grille of the helmet, and how much CSK means to MS Dhoni. It’s a family to him. Ravi has spent a lot more time with him,” he added.

Dhoni returned as a much more determined player and captain for CSK in 2018 and formed a team full of experienced players. They were ridiculed after mega auctions and were called ‘Dad’s Army. Dhoni though marshaled his troops well and won the third title for CSK.
