While the rest of the Sunrisers Hyderabad attack struggled under pressure, young Umran Malik delivered on his potential to pick up his maiden five-wicket haul in IPL. The Kashmir quick, one of the fastest in the tournament, bowled with good pace and rhythm and was the only SRH bowler to be amongst the wickets as his team suffered a nail-biting loss to the league leaders.
Umran started with a bang castling the in form Shubman Gill who tried to carve one through the offside for a boundary. Gill’s wicket was soon followed by that of GT captain Hardik Pandya, who miscued a pull shot which was caught comfortably by Marco Jansen in the deep.

Wriddhiman Saha, who scored a stellar half-century was the next to depart after the SRH quick nailed a perfect yorker to get rid of the veteran keeper for 68. David Miller soon followed after he missed a straight delivery which sent his middle stump for a walk. Abhinav Manohar was the last man dismissed as the Karnataka star was done by a beautiful delivery as Malik picked up his five-wicket haul off the last ball of his spell.
Incidentally, it was only the second five-wicket haul of the season following Yuzvendra Chahal’s efforts against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Umran’s figures of 5/25 were the best for the season as the Kashmir quick rose in the purple cap rankings as well, alongside teammate T Natarajan. Umrn was retained by SRH for Rs 4 crore and performances like one on Wednesday make him worth every penny spent by the team management.
