IPL 2022: Gautam Gambhir to mentor Lucknow: Even though the BCCI has put a temporary halt on announcements, the Lucknow franchise has ramped up its efforts. After announcing Andy Flower as their head coach, and finalising a deal with KL Rahul to be their captain, the RPSG-backed franchise has roped in Gautam Gambhir as the mentor. As per a TOI report, Gautam Gambhir will be the mentor and work closely with head coach Andy Flower and KL Rahul during the 10-team IPL 2022. A BJP MP, Gautam Gambhir led Kolkata Knight Riders to two IPL titles.

“Gambhir brings with him a proven track record in the IPL as captain for KKR. He also has a penchant for grooming young talent which Lucknow feels will suit them well ahead of what is expected to be a tough initiation into an increasingly competitive IPL scenario,” TOI quoted a source.
Later, Gautam Gambhir himself confirmed the development in a tweet.
“It’s a privilege to be in the contest again. Thanks Dr. Goenka for incl me in #LucknowIPLTeam as its mentor.The fire to win still burns bright inside me, the desire to leave a winner’s legacy still kicks me. I won’t be contesting for a dressing room but for the spirit & soul of UP,” Gambhir said.

Former Zimbabwe captain and wicketkeeper Andy Flower will coach IPL’s Lucknow franchise.

However, the Lucknow franchise will not be able to officially announce KL Rahul until BCCI’s go-ahead. The BCCI is waiting for a report on the CVC-backed Ahmedabad franchise. Until the other franchise gets clearance, Lucknow will not be able to announce any player officially.

“Even Lucknow IPL team will not do any signing or announcement till the matter of Ahmedabad franchise is not sorted. We will give equal time to both sides to complete 3 signings before auctions and for other requisites,” a top BCCI official told InsideSport this week.
