Murray beat Daniel 1-6, 6-2, 6-4

Former world number one Andy Murray rallied after a dismal first set to beat Japanese qualifier Taro Daniel in the first round at Indian Wells on Friday and claim a 700th ATP Tour match victory. Murray, a three-time Grand Slam champion now ranked 88th in the world and playing on a wildcard invitation, was broken at love four times but held on for a gritty 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory in the first round of the prestigious ATP Masters tournament.

It was his second win in three matches this year against Daniel, who stunned Murray in the second round of the Australian Open before the Briton turned the tables in the first round at Doha.

Murray twice battled back from behind to earn his 700th career win,1-6, 6-2, 6-4. The win extends Murray’s run to six straight ATP Tour events with at least one win, his semi-final showing in Sydney still his best result of the young season.

Murray next faces 31st seed Alexander Bublik. Murray is 2-0 in his ATP Head2Head against the Kazakh, including a straight-sets win in Rotterdam last month.

Raducanu beat Garcia 6-1, 3-6, 6-1

Reigning US Open champion Emma Raducanu picked up her first career victory at the BNP Paribas Open, overcoming former World No.4 Caroline Garcia 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 to advance into the third round.

In the first career meeting between the two, No.11 seed Raducanu of Great Britain held off France’s Garcia in an hour and 31 minutes, setting up a third-round clash with Petra Martic of Croatia.

Raducanu, 19, had only won one match this season coming into the desert, while suffering three 2022 defeats. However, the Brit showed excellent form in the first and third sets against Garcia to pick up her second match-win of season.

Swiatek vs Kalinina LIVE

Iga Swiatek was a set away from being bundled out of the tournament. After dropping an opening set to Ukraine’s Anhelina Kalinina that saw seven combined service breaks, the No.3 seed reset and rallied with aplomb: she lost just one game the rest of the way to advance to the third round, 5-7, 6-0, 6-1.

Swiatek was unable to turn leads of 3-1 and 4-2 into a one-set lead, as Kalinina won five of the last six games to steal the opener. However, the World No.50’s serve remained under pressure in the next two sets, and Swiatek

The early stages of the second set proved the most competitive, as Swiatek was forced to save five break points in her first two service games. Kalinina had two chances to break in the first game to extend her lead, and later, three chances to get back on serve at 2-0.

Swiatek, who reached the fourth round in Indian Wells last year in her tournament main-draw debut, next faces either No.29 seed Clara Tauson of Denmark or Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia.
