BCCI Review Meeting – IND vs BAN: The BCCI is rattled with India’s performance. The two losses to seventh ranked Bangladesh has made BCCI officials ‘very concerned’. The 50-over World Cup is to be hosted in 10 months time and the board is not ready to take any chances.
The top board officials will meet both captain & coach in Mumbai after the Bangladesh series.
- Defeat in T20 World CUP & Series vs Bangladesh will be discussed
- BCCI is also concerned about growing injury list.
- Board has also called on NCA Chief VVS Laxman for the meeting
- BCCI will formally discuss with Rahul Dravid on appointment of separate coaching staff for T20 set-up.
The BCCI is also yet to appoint a new senior selection committee. Though the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) has already been named this week. By the time review meeting will be conducted, BCCI is hopeful of appointing new selection committee by then.
India New T20 Coach – Rahul Dravid on his WAY-OUT? In another piece of info coming out of the BCCI Headquarters in Mumbai is that the Indian board is ‘seriously mulling’ to appoint separate coach for India’s T20 Set-UP.
The new coaching set-up for the Indian T20 Team can be announced as soon as in January according to a source in BOARD. This means that, India will play T20 Series vs SriLanka in January under NEW-CAPTAIN & NEW COACH.
InsideSport had already reported that Hardik Pandya will be officially appointed as India’s NEW T20 Captain before series vs SriLanka. Now a top BCCI official has confirmed to InsideSport, that board is also interested in appointing NEW-COACH for Indian T20 Team. In all likelihood, new coach will work in tandem with Rahul Dravid.
Dravid will primarily focus on ODI & Test Team, while a separate coaching set-up for T20 is being mulled on.
“We are seriously mulling on it. More than it being Rahul Dravid or anyone’s ability, it is a question of managing tight schedules & having specialize skills on board. T20 now is like a separate sport, tough calendar & regular events. We also need to imbibe change. Yes, I can confirm – India soon will have new T20 Coaching SET-UP”, confirmed top official in BCCI.
Rahul Dravid on his WAY-OUT? When asked, who can be appointed as India’s new T20 Coach? BCCI official said, ‘no one has been zeroed on so far’. InsideSport further asked the official on by when the new appointmment can come in?
“We are not sure by when, but we are certain about India needs fresh approach to T20 SET-UP. We will have announcement of NEW-CAPTAIN before January. And new coach can follow, but as I said nothing is final”, said the official without revealing any further details.
Both Ravi Shastri & Harbhajan Singh had earlier suggested that India should have separate coach & captain for T20 SET-UP.
“Someone who has played the game more recently is better suited for the coaching job in T20s. I am not saying you remove Rahul from T20. Ashish and Rahul can work together to build this team for the 2024 World Cup,” Harbhajan recently told PTI.
“I think for T20 cricket, there’s no harm in having a new captain, new coach because the volume of cricket is such that for one person to play or manage all three formats of the game is never going to be easy,” Shastri was quoted during recent virtual news conference.
