India will play 3 Match T20 Series vs SriLanka in January. Neither of these players will be included in Indian squad for the SERIES. India’s VICE-CAPTAIN KL Rahul is set to miss the series as he is reportedly getting married.
“The new selection committee gets appointed in December. They are the ones who will take all formal decisions about the Indian squad. But it is certain that we need to move on from few names. Rohit, Virat have already been spoken to. They are on same page with the BCCI“, informed a top BCCI official to InsideSport.

India were the winners the last time an ODI World Cup was held on their soil back in 2011. But since then, they haven’t won any World Cup. Their last ICC trophy was nearly a decade ago in 2013 when MS Dhoni led them to the Champions Trophy title.
With KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant falling out of favour as future T20s captains, Hardik Pandya has got the backing and will be announced as Indian captain soon after the NEW SELECTION COMMITTEE gets appointed.
Another possible contender for captaincy, Jasprit Bumrah, is out injured at the moment.
As for Rohit, he is already 35 years old and the Board will keep him as captain for the next year’s 50-over World Cup on home soil. Most of the senior players who featured in the recent edition in Australia are unlikely to be in the team for the next edition of T20 World Cup in 2024 in the West Indies and United States.

Why will KL Rahul miss the series? KL Rahul Wedding: Indian vice-captain KL Rahul is likely to miss the three-match T20 & ODI series against SriLanka at home. InsideSport understands that Rahul has sought a mini-break after the Test series against Bangladesh. He will get married to Suneil Shetty’s daughter Athiya Shetty in January’s first week. However, he will be available for the home series against NewZealand. As Rohit Sharma is also expected to take a break from T20s, Hardik Pandya is likely to lead in the T20 series. But the fixtures for SriLanka series at home is yet to be announced. The series is likely to take place in first week of January.
Recently, Suneil Shetty confirmed the long-standing rumour of KL Rahul’s wedding with daughter Athiya Shetty. The two have been dating since 2018.
“Hopefully soon, we will know when and where will the wedding will happen. I guess at the right time, everyone will know details about the wedding,” Suneil Shetty told Hindustan Times.
With preparations already begun for World Cup 2023, KL Rahul missing the ODI series might not be ideal. But it is family time. A BCCI official earlier told InsideSport that he had asked for some personal time off.
KL Rahul is already under fire for his lukewarm form. He was one of the stars who did not fire in T20 World Cup. In that context, the Bangladesh series will be crucial.
“KL has asked for some personal time off. That is why he is not playing in New Zealand. He does not have any injury concerns or a break. He has some family commitments. I am not aware if he is getting married or engaged but yes, he has some personal commitment is what I can tell you,” a BCCI official told InsideSport earlier.
As he has taken a break from the NewZealand series, Rahul is busy with his wedding preparations. He recently visited Kukke Subrahmanya temple in Mangalore temple in Mangaluru.
But he is leaving for Dhaka along with Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and other teammates. India will begin practice from Thursday.
IND vs BAN: Immediately after the Test series against Bangladesh, Team India will return home for the SriLanka series.
