However, the good news is the return of Deepak Chahar, who has had an impressive return to world cricket with a four wicket haul in the first game. He did not feature in the second ODI. The pacer, who is well aware about the spots available in the T20 World Cup, will eye another great show to prove his fitness and skill in the third ODI. He is one of the best new ball bowlers in India.

The management also decided to give Avesh Khan his first game in the series after missing out on the first two matches. Khan will be eager to make an impression against Zimbabwe.

The big focus is always going to be on Deepak Chahar and KL Rahul.  The duo will look to get some match fitness under their belt. While Chahar is a standby for the Asia Cup, Rahul is vice-captain and will face the first ball of India’s campaign against Pakistan on August 28.

Rahul is returning from a long-term injury and did not bat in the 1st ODI, while in the second game he could only manage 1. The 30-year-old would hope to bat longer and get some runs under his belt to aid his confidence and rhythm before setting sail for the UAE.

At the toss too on Monday, the India captain said that he needs some time in the middle. With India batting first for the first time in the series, it gives him that luxury to spend more time at the crease and get into form before the continental competition.
