The 31-year-old Nehwal was trailing 5-7 in the first game, and Malvika was in no mood to let this advantage and she ended up winning the first game 21-17. Bansod then did not look back, and she continued with her momentum, winning the match inside 35 minutes.

India Open Badminton LIVE- PV Sindhu, Ashmita Chaliha enter Last-8 But the Covid-19 hit tournament morning has finally something to cheer. India’s badminton ace PV Sindhu has entered Quarterfinals without breaking much sweat. Sindhu defeated Ira Sharma.

PV Sindhu progressed to the next round of the ongoing competition. In an all-Indian affair, Sindhu outclassed Ira Sharma 21-10, 21-10 to progress to the next round. Sindhu was at her dominant self in the first game and she wrapped up the game inside 13 minutes. Continuing from where she left off, the 26-year-old took full advantage of her momentum and ended up winning the match within 30 minutes.

Along with Sindhu, Ashmita Chaliha also made it last 8 by defeating Yaelle HOYAUX in straight games.

Earlier 7 Indian players including Kidambi Srikanth & Ashwini Ponappa tested positive and withdrew from the tournament.

India Open Badminton LIVE – 7 Players test positive: The Indian Open Badminton tournament in Delhi has been rocked by Covid-19 menace. 7 Indian shuttlers including World championship silver medallist Kidambi Srikanth, Ashwini Ponappa have tested positive. The Badminton World Federation (BWF) via an official release on Thursday morning confirmed the development but refused to reveal the names. InsideSport has learnt from its sources, that Srikanth & Ponappa are in the list of positive tested players.

7 Players test positive: These players include – Kidambi Srikanth Nammalwar, Ashwini Ponnappa, Ritika Rahul Thkar, Treesa Jolly, Mithun Manjunath, Simran Aman Singh, Khushi Gupta.

“The players returned a positive result to a mandatory RT-PCR test conducted on Tuesday. Doubles partners deemed close contact of the seven players have also been withdrawn from the tournament,” the world governing body said in a statement.

These players will not be replaced in the main draw of the competition and their opponents will be given a walkover to the next round.

Earlier, B Sai Praneeth, the 2019 world championship bronze medallist, and double specialists Manu Attri and Dhruv Rawat had tested positive for the dreaded virus ahead of their departure for New Delhi and had hence pulled out before the start of the tournamen

“Testing protocols have been implemented in accordance with Badminton World Federation and Badminton Association of India guidelines to ensure the health and safety of all participants,” the statement further read.
